The album title references Robert Rauschenberg’s Erased de Kooning Drawing (1953) — a notorious piece where Rauschenberg literally erased a Willem de Kooning drawing, reducing it to nearly blank paper, and claimed it as his own work.

That gesture stuck with me. I wanted to approach familiar emotional states — sadness, melancholy, isolation — but in a way that erased their usual musical form. What’s left are sonic absences, moods half-present, half-erased.

I recorded acoustic instruments I’ve known most of my life — cello (since I was 8), bells, marxophone, piano, zither — and processed them through analog pedals to blur the sound, darken it, leave it ambiguous. The meeting of electronics and acoustics became the album’s signature.

These sounds have traveled into other artforms. starchild #2 has scored for Teater Solaris’ productions Brønden (2015) and Cellen (2017), and for Ulrik Møller’s road movie En route at his 2017 solo exhibition Landskabet at Brandts 13 in Odense.
